We offer probably the widest range of hypnosis based therapies in West Lothian and, arguably, Scotland. We believe in giving visitors to our practice the widest choice possible, and have spent a lot of time and money on researching and studying various techniques because we want to be seen as different from everyone else.
Clinical Hypnosis tends to be used to overcome specific, and quite commonplace, issues. This powerful technique encompasses solutions for weight loss, smoking cessation, releasing fears & phobias, stress & anxiety management, impotence & sexual dysfunction but ultimately can be tailored specifically to create a solution for almost anything! The only limit is our imagination …
Hypnosis for Children, or Pediatric Hypnosis, is, as the name suggests, a gentle hypnotic technique that really draws upon a child’s natural ability to imagine. It is this vivid imagination that, in many cases, has brought about the problem, hence it can also bring about a solution.
Weight Management Hypnosis is our speciality: a combined therapeutic approach to weight loss (although we prefer the term “weight reduction”) but more importantly to setting up correct behavioural habits that will allow you to keep the weight off permanently. The fact that the majority of people who go on diets put all of the weight (and very often more) back on means that traditional diets don’t work. We have combined habit altering, craving busting hypnosis with popular Gastric Band Hypnotherapy to deliver a powerful alternative to traditional dieting. We also offer personalised, naturopathic dietary advice and can support, and encourage your fitness using the latest hypnosis ‘technology’ for exercising.
HypnoAnalysis combines hypnosis and psychoanalysis to allow us to communicate with your subconscious mind to identify, and find solutions to, the cause of your problems. It is based around the precept that your subconscious mind knows everything that has ever happened to you, and therefore knows what you need to do to rectify an issue in your life. We know that most problems people have are caused by an event they experienced in their past life and we also know that reliving that experience under different conditions can free people of the problems that the initial experience caused.
Spiritual Hypnosis is not for everyone. People can, you know, have different beliefs and still live their lives within society! We celebrate this fact by offering spiritual hypnosis, including past life regression, spirit guide contact and Chakra development to name but a few of the techniques in this area. We aim to give people guidance towards an answer to life’s most powerful questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What is it all about? Etc.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an advanced technique that pays attention to how our beliefs, thought patterns, use of words (linguistics) and “internal programming” may contribute to the problem, and then uses specific techniques to help you to create new modes of thinking and behaving (modalities) in order to minimise the problem.
Hypnosis Based Therapies
What is Hypnosis Based Therapy?
Modern Hypnosis has been constantly refined over the past 100 years, but the technique has been around since the Egyptian Priests used rhythmic chanting to ‘heal’ many thousands of years ago.
Hypnosis is not a therapy … it is a name given, by pre-eminent Scottish surgeon James Braid, to an altered state of awareness in the 1800’s. People enter this altered ‘hypnotic’ state naturally numerous times each and every day, yet there are still many misconceptions surrounding it.
HypnoTHERAPY (if you will forgive the deliberate emphasis) is “therapy conducted under a hypnotic state” taking advantage of some of the unique features of the hypnotic state.

When Would You Use Hypnosis Based Therapies?
Hypnosis is a powerful technique and, when done correctly, can result in amazing ‘tranceformations’ in a person’s life. Equally, it can be used to overcome what some might term ‘minor’ symptoms. Whatever the issue, as long as you have strong motivation to make a change, we can doubtlessly develop a hypnosis based solution. However, in cases where the client presents more “severe” symptoms, or a complex mix of symptoms, we would likely advocate a complementary therapy in addition to hypnosis.
To help you understand what we mean, see the two example below:
Scenario A – Mild Fear of Flying
“Client has flown several times in the past, but is going on holiday in a few weeks and is starting to get quite anxious about the prospect even though they know that they have done it before. They don’t know why they have “all of a sudden” developed these feelings but they want to be able to get on the plane and not panic as this would ruin the holiday for everybody else.”
Scenario B – Chronic Fear of Flying
“Client has only flown once before at it was the most horrible experience they ever had, all they could think about was crashing and dying and that was 4 years ago. Now, they only have to see a TV programme about planes or flying and they go into a cold sweat. This has also led to some obsessive compulsive patterns developing, such as having to check the front door lock 25 times before leaving the house in the mornings and overall they feel much more anxious.”
We are certain that you can see that these two people experience the “Fear of Flying” in rather different ways. In the first case clinical hypnosis would undoubtedly help the client to have a much more relaxed flight and holiday, but we hope that you can also see that, in scenario B, this person has many more visible issues and is almost certain to benefit more from the addition of other complementary therapy such as HypnoAnalysis, Cognitive Processing & Integration (CPI) therapy or even EFT, even though clinical hypnosis would be able to help them manage the symptoms.
Sometimes we have to dig a little deeper to remove all the roots, don’t we?
All conditions that we can treat with hypnotic techniques require two critical elements for success: your desire to make the change, and your maximum effort. If you have these, nothing can stop you!
The material included herein is intended to complement, not replace, the advice of your own physician, psychotherapist, or other healthcare professional, whom you should always consult about your circumstances before starting or stopping any medication or any other course of treatment, exercise regimen, or diet.
“… you’ve made me a man again! I can’t thank you enough, and neither can Mrs ******! I wasn’t able to perform [sexually], and have had it like that for years. Going back and finding out why this happened meant that I could deal with it. My only issue is that the sessions aren’t long enough. I felt so good that I didn’t want to come out [of hypnosis]”
“I don’t know how to write this, so bear with me. For years, … I’ve pretended to orgasm so often that … I didn’t think it was even possible. You blew that idea out of my head alright. When I think about it it feels weird. I go to ‘sleep’ and wake up able to have shuddering orgasms but I feel so good about it that I just disregard my own surprise. I will certainly be recommending you.”
“Colin, we’re just back from holiday … I did the self hypnosis trick you showed me and imagined the flight as I wanted to experience it. It was great to be part of the trip this time … I must admit that I felt a little anxious in preparation for the holiday, but stuck with your ‘homework’ and it paid off big time. Thanks, buddy, for all your help.”
“I’ve tried the patches, tried the gum, and it didn’t make a blind bit of difference. I was stunned by what you were telling me in our session, couldn’t believe it, but you took the time to explain it and it really hit home. I AM A NON SMOKER … and I love it. Thank you so much. Can you please tell me why is this not available on the NHS?”
Caroline, East Calder
“Thank you, Colin, for giving me back my self confidence. You know what it’s like and you gave me the encouragement to lose my weight. This time, the weight is falling off me!I’ve lost almost two stones already … I feel in control again.”
